I've also participated in that thread you linked to (which I also linked via another similar thread to this one, here on Reddit). You'll have to readjust all your graphics settings (just click on 'Options' in the lower right-hand corner). This will finally allow ya to get to the character select screen. Make sure to click on 'Save' and then launch the game in 'Safe Mode'.
Then in Command Line type -d3d11Enable 0 -d3d9Enable 0. I can confirm that the following work-around will get ya in-game, until this is hopefully fixed: In the launcher, go to options and check 'Safe Mode'.
Thank you kindly for bringing this up Xashaffer! After years of just lurking and reading here, daily and often several times a day, I finally bit the proverbial bullet and signed up here, on account of this bug issue.
